A Worthwhile Excursion in Punta Cana.
Here are some ways I've heard Punta Cana described: "heaven on earth," "tropical paradise," "most amazing beach," "wonderful". Many resorts in fact tell their guests that it would be "dangerous" to get away from the resort and go off and do things on your own while you are traveling in the country. Most of them have several hundred rooms. The grounds are so large that they provide tram service to get around. The weather in Punta Cana is always warm, even in the evening and even in the winter which is when we were there. The temperature can drop into the upper 60's at night and with the wind, you may want to have a light weight jacket along on your trip. However, they can get crowded and I personally believe there are some other beaches in the Dominican Republic that are even prettier than those along the Punta Cana coast.
The Dominican Republic has so many activities to offer it is hard to narrow it down into a short time frame that most of take a vacation. It always seems like you wish you had more time. So here is my shorter lists of the things I think you simply must do if you go there. You can book your own independent snorkeling trips out and I suggest you do so because the hotel ones are way too crowded and they take you to portions of the reef that are just inundated with tourists. The 2 island expedition takes you places that are quite isolated and you'll probably only have the people in your small group around. The beaches there are stupendously gorgeous and they're unspoiled and not crowded. We stopped several times before we got to the island including a colony of pelicans and close look at the fish nursery in the mangroves - you could see the baby fish very clearly.
