Famous for being mentioned in the historic Anglo-Saxon Chronicle, this erstwhile quiet market town is yet again in the chronicles as agents from Her Majesty's Revenue & Customs burst into the bedroom of Richard Hillgrove and his wife , arresting them both for VAT Evasion, Tax Evasion and Money Laundering. The fact, later admitted by the Crown Prosecution Service, that Lois Hillgrove never even had any involvement in the business, but was seriously distressed by the sudden intrusion, as were her aging grandmother and father who shared the house with them, had slender importance for the HMRC and Crown Prosecution Service, nor did the serious repercussions of the devastating events to follow...
